Retiree Advantage for FEHBP and PSHBP annuitants

Enroll in the Retiree Advantage plan at no additional cost to your UnitedHealthcare FEHB or PSHB plan.

Our Medicare Advantage plan provides participants all the benefits of Original Medicare, plus plenty of extras to be happy about.

With your MAPD plan in place, UnitedHealthcare will help you take advantage of your benefits. Giving you more time to live life to the fullest.

Federal retirees: you must be enrolled in one of the following UnitedHealthcare® FEHB health plans: Choice Primary, Choice Plus Primary, Choice Open Access, Choice Plus Advanced, and MD-IPA to be eligible for the Retiree Advantage plan. Eligible FEHB rate codes include AS, JP, L9, LR, VD, WF, or Y8.

Postal Retirees: you must be enrolled in the Choice Plus Primary UnitedHealthcare PSHB Health Plan. Eligible PSHB rate codes include JY (East region members) and KE (West region members)

With this all-in-one plan, there’s no need to coordinate primary and secondary payers. You’ll remain in the FEHB or PSHB program plus get a collection of programs and services you won’t find anywhere else. Once you’ve enrolled, it will become your primary plan, and only payer.

Who is eligible for the Retiree Advantage plan?

Individuals who are retired, with Medicare A and B, and enrolled in a UnitedHealthcare FEHB Health Plan code. Participating plan codes include: AS, JP, L9, LR, VD, WF, Y8.

How much does the Retiree Advantage plan cost?

There is no additional premium to enroll in the Retiree Advantage plan. You must continue to pay your UnitedHealthcare FEHB Health Plan premium and your Medicare premiums.

When enrolled in the UnitedHealthcare Retiree Advantage plan, do I have to continue paying my monthly Medicare premiums?

Yes. You must be enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B to be eligible for our Retiree Advantage plan and you must continue to pay your Medicare premiums to the government. This is a requirement for Medicare Advantage plans. If you stop paying your Medicare premiums, you may be disenrolled from your plan.

Will I remain in the FEHB program if I elect to enroll in the Retiree Advantage plan?

This Retiree Advantage plan allows you to remain in the FEHB program. This is why you must first enroll in an UnitedHealthcare FEHB Plan code with OPM and remain enrolled in that plan code – it keeps you within the FEHB program. Do not suspend or terminate your coverage with OPM or you will also be terminated from the Retiree Advantage plan.

Do I have to remain enrolled in my UnitedHealthcare FEHB Health Plan code with OPM to enroll in the Retiree Advantage plan?

Yes, you must remain enrolled in your UnitedHealthcare FEHB Health Plan code with OPM to be eligible for the Retiree Advantage plan. Do not suspend or terminate your coverage with OPM or you will be terminated from the Retiree Advantage plan.

Does the Retiree Advantage Plan coordinate with my UnitedHealthcare FEHB health plan?

No, while you will remain a UnitedHealthcare FEHB Health Plan member in the FEHB program, once enrolling in the Retiree Advantage plan it will take over as the primary and only payer. You will no longer need to coordinate between two plans.

Do I need to notify OPM when I enroll into the Retiree Advantage plan?

No, you only need to contact OPM to enroll in a qualifying UnitedHealthcare FEHB plan code.

If I have a Medicare part B Income Related Monthly Adjustment Amount (IRMAA), will I incur a Medicare part D IRMAA if I elect to enroll in the Retiree Advantage enhanced level of benefits?

IRMAA is an amount Social Security determines you may need to pay in addition to your monthly Part B and D premium if your modified adjusted gross income on your IRS tax return from 2 years ago is above a certain limit. The UnitedHealthcare Retiree Advantage plan’s included prescription drug coverage is considered a Part D plan therefore if you currently have a Part B IRMAA then you may incur an additional Part D IRMAA when enrolling in this plan.

How will I receive the monthly Medicare part B premium subsidy?

Your monthly Medicare part B premium subsidy will be automatically applied to your Medicare part B premium in the form of a reduced part B premium charge.

The method in which you pay your part B premium will be the method in which you will receive the subsidy. Your reduced part B premium will be applied on your Social Security benefit, direct bill from Medicare, or Annuity benefit depending on how you pay your premium.

You will not see a line-item credit on your statement, you will see a reduced premium amount. For example, in 2023 the part B premium is $174.70 and the subsidy amount is $150, therefore the charge you will see on your statement will be $24.70.

Will I have dental coverage under the Retiree Advantage enhanced level of benefits?

Yes, you will have an annual preventive care dental benefit, with a $500 annual maximum. You will receive a separate ID card, for this stand-alone benefit

Will I have vision or eyewear coverage under the Retiree Advantage enhanced level of benefits?

Your coverage will include an annual eye exam, however, unless you are enrolled in plan code JP, you will not have eyewear coverage. If you are enrolled in plan code JP you will have a stand-alone eyewear benefit.

Who is eligible for the Retiree Advantage plan?
